Navigating German Working Culture: A Guide for International Students
Entering the German job market as an international student or graduate means not only adapting to a new professional environment but also understanding the diverse working cultures that exist within it. What defines professional behavior in Germany? How do expectations differ between large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups?
This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to the key aspects of German working culture. We will explore general workplace norms such as communication styles, hierarchy, punctuality, and decision-making processes. At the same time, we will highlight the differences in work culture across various types of organizations, helping you understand what to expect in different organizational contexts.
Through group activities and reflection exercises, you will also have the opportunity to assess how your own working style aligns with these cultural and professional contexts. We will discuss practical approaches to adapting to and thriving within different professional settings while taking into account your personal strengths and values.
This workshop is designed for international students from all disciplines and semesters who are preparing to navigate the German job market.
